Mesopotamia people use writing to record and communicate with others. Pictograms are the earliest type of writing. Pictograms are picture used to symbolize a word or a phase. They transitioned over from pictogram to cuneiform. Cuneiform is writing system invented in the Southern Mesopotamia. Many years Mesopotamia had scribes recorded trades, daily events, literature and more. A scribe is someone learned to read and write in cuneiform. Cuneiform was used by people throughout the ancient Near East to write several different languages.

People started living in Mesopotamia more than 6 thousands years ago. Some of the first cities were created. Then Empire and some building were created also. New groups of people that moved into Mesopotamia had adopted some of the culture, traditions, and so on. But certain parts of Mesopotamia stayed the same.
Mesopotamia a Greek word meaning between the rivers. The two rivers are Tigris and Euphrates which goes through today's Iraq . People that lived in Mesopotamia had to use ditches along the rivers in order for their crops to grow. It was important because was their food source and its the only way to keep them from starving. Gilgamesh ruled the city of Uruk. Uruk was Mesopotamia plain near the banks of the Euphrates river. |
